Sexuality and Gender

Here at St John’s, we believe that all genders are equal, and all those ordained priest are welcome to preside at our Eucharistic altar.

We are members of Inclusive Church, and participate in the OpenTable network within London. We affirm, love and celebrate LGBTQIA+ people as children of God. This is part of our identity as a socially liberal, central London community. Together we hope to continue growing in our inclusion and celebration of everyone, as all are created and loved by the God of Jesus Christ. We are proud that same sex couples are a significant part of our community, and encouraged by the Church of England’s guidance for supporting transgender Christians: “The Church of England welcomes and encourages the unconditional affirmation of trans people, equally with all people, within the body of Christ, and rejoices in the diversity of that body into which all Christians have been baptised by one Spirit”.

In 2020, the Church of England published Living in Love and Faith. We are joining in the church’s call to engage with these resources of 2021/22 - see our blogpost.

A member of the team is always happy to meet over coffee to discuss your faith journey. Please ring the office or send us an email - see our contact details.
