Children and Young Families are very much part of our life here at St John’s, whether through our involvement in local schools, providing space for playgroups during the week or the important role children play during services on Sunday mornings.

SAFEGUARDING

Here at St John’s we encourage a safe environment for children and adults at risk (previously vulnerable adults) who either visit, worship or are employed with us. On 6th June 2019 the PCC adopted the London Diocese PCC Safeguarding Policy which sets out the following commitments:

  • Create a safe and caring place for all.

  • Have a named Church Safeguarding Officer (CSO) to work with the Incumbent and the PCC to implement policy and procedures.

  • Safely recruit, train and support all those with any responsibility for children, young people and adults to have the confidence and skills to recognize and respond to abuse.

  • Ensure that there is appropriate insurance cover for all activities involving children and adults undertaken in the name of the parish.

  • Display in church premises and on the Parish website the details of whom to contact if there are safeguarding concerns or support needs.

  • Listen to and take seriously all those who disclose abuse.

  • Take steps to protect children and adults when a safeguarding concern of any kind arises, following House of Bishops' guidance, including notifying the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer (DSA) and statutory agencies immediately.

  • Offer support to victims/survivors of abuse regardless of the type of abuse and when or where it occurred.

  • Care for and monitor any member of the church community who may pose a risk to children and adults whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality and the safety of all parties.

  • Ensure that health and safety policy, procedures and risk assessments are in place and that these are reviewed annually.

Children's Events

stay+play

Thursdays 9:30 - 11:30am
During term-time come and stay for a play and a sing-song as we make friends and share stories over a cup of coffee. All children and babies welcome (newborn to 5yrs).

A typical session consists of free play for an hour, followed by snacks and drinks, and then time for songs (with instruments and actions!).

Sunday mornings

Sundays 10am
Children are welcome to stay with their parents in church or join in Kids’ Club which congregates after the beginning of the service. They then rejoin their parents in time to receive communion or a blessing.

Toilets and nappy changing facilities are available both in the church and in the parish hall.  For those staying with their parents, there are pew bags available with soft toys and material to help them engage with the service.  At the end of the service there is a children’s reception of juice and biscuits.
