St John's Lunch Club

Alex is restarting St John's Lunch Club on the 12th May after the Sunday Service at 12.30pm. We will be going to the newly opened Kendal Street Kitchen, who have put together a special 3 course menu, with a soft drink, for £28.50 including service charge.  If you would like to purchase any additional drinks, etc, this can be done on the day.

If you would like to attend please let Alex know and he can let you have a copy of the menu.  We will be collecting payment in advance, which can be sent to the office.

The next lunch club will be in September.

Whitsun Carols, 19th May 2024

A unique musical service at 6pm concluding our annual cycle of carol services which tell the events of the Christian year.  At Whitsun Carols we commemorate the events from Easter to Pentecost, with readings and musical selections from the choir and guest musicians. including Berlioz’s Resurrexit, Stanford’s Coelios Ascendit, Gloria from Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Festival Overture.  A reception with the first of the summer Pimms will follow.

Safeguarding at St John’s

Safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults is a priority at St John’s.  The Parochial Church Council (PCC) carries out an annual review of the parish’s Safeguarding Policy and the current policy is available in the porch and on the parish website.  Safeguarding concerns can be raised in the first instance with the church’s Safeguarding Officer, Mary Langford.

St John’s Music

Music plays an important role in our worship and liturgy at St John’s and there is a page on our website listing the music for the current term.  For ease of access, we have created a QR code which will take you straight to the music page.  Just scan the code below and you can see what music has been used recently as well as what music will be featured in future services.  If you can’t make use of QR codes, you can use this link: https://www.stjohns-hydepark.com/service-music .

St John’s Book Club

St John’s Book Club met recently to discuss Scarborough by Canadian author Catherine Hernandez, which was a popular choice.  They have chosen their next book – the thriller Trust No One by New Zealand author Paul Cleave – and will meet to discuss it on 17th June.  For further information about the book club, please speak to Irwin Nazareth.
