Beating the Retreat

  • horseguards parade 70 Whitehall London, SW1A 2AS United Kingdom (map)

As part of St John's celebrations to mark HM the Queen's 90th birthday, on Thursday 9th June, we are organising a visit to 'Beating the Retreat' on Horse Guards Parade.  This year's theme is the Commonwealth, an organisation very close to the Queen's heart and, while it is not confirmed, 9th June is the hot favourite for the night when the Queen herself takes the salute.  The ceremony starts at 8.30pm so we will have time to enjoy supper beforehand in the vicinity of Horse Guards.

A spectacular evening pageant of music and military precision drill, including horses, cannon and fireworks, these annual concerts are performed on Horse Guards Parade in front of the beautiful backdrop of St James’s Park each year on the Wednesday and Thursday evenings preceding the Queen’s Birthday Parade, or “Trooping The Colour” as it is often called. Please let Margaret or a member of staff know if you would like to come - a £15 deposit is required.
