An Inclusive Welcome
At CommunionOur community at St John’s reflects the rich diversity of central London.
“Saints from every tribe and language and nation…
made to be a kingdom and priests serving our God.”

St John’s is a welcoming church with a broad Anglican tradition.
We are accepting of all people and families.
We come to St John’s with an open mind.
We aim to serve as the heartbeat of our diverse, local community.
At worshipPeople from many countries make up our Sunday congregation, and we also enjoy welcoming visitors staying in the local hotels around Paddington station.  To celebrate this diversity, one of our traditions is that we all say the Lord’s Prayer in our own mother tongue.

Different faiths

WelcomeOur parish “ethos statement” (above) commits us all to coming to St John’s with an open mind.  Both individually and as a community we try to engage with others’ opinions and with other faiths, and to be accepting of change.  We have close links with other local churches, and with the Jewish and Muslim faith communities centred on the Edgware Road.

Different lives

Children's ChurchWe try to make our services and activities appeal to young and old alike.  Please click for details of our Kid’s Club, Playgroup and adult education programme. We are diverse in other ways too – married, single, gay, lesbian, working, retired, affluent, less well-off.

Different needs

At CommunionWe welcome all to St John's, and we have a rota of helpers to bring and care for adults with special needs at our services. It's an important part of our ministry to our community that no one should feel excluded from St John's by physical or intellectual hurdles.

Like many churches, we struggle to make our historic building meet modern expectations of accessibility.  At present we have a ramp to allow step-free access via the Church Hall.  Better access to the main west door and improved toilet facilities are included in Phase 3 of our Development Plan.
