Tuesday and Thursday: 10.00 - 11.30am

Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10 am are a pretty rumbustious affair at St John’s Under 5s Playgroup. With up to forty under fives singing, dancing and playing with toys St John’s is a noisy, fun place to be.
The children make friends, learn to share and—as the song goes—learn where their heads, shoulders, knees and toes are. They love the organised singing and the songs are a great learning aid—they all have actions that go with them! We’re also very lucky to have a great selection of toys for the children to play with—although there’s always a race for the kids’ toy buggies.

The Under 5s Playgroup has been in place for a number of years and we see parents and carers return with younger siblings year-on-year. And it’s not just for the kids—it’s also a great social group for those looking after them. With approximately equal numbers of parents and nannies in attendance, it has a good dynamic: after the singing, while the children play, we chat to each other over tea and coffee. After meeting at the group, we invariably bump into each other in the playgrounds, on the streets and at the shops and so good friendships form.

The benefits of the group are also felt more widely in the community. We often hold collections—of toys and other infant accessories—for Westminster Local Authority. The Local Authority distributes the items to local families in need and have written to say how well they have been received. Further, we also contributed towards the £1000 donation made by the children of St. John’s to COSMIC, the children’s intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital and the St John's development appeal that's created our beautiful church.

We charge a nominal sum of £1 per adult to attend the group, not a bad investment and there's always plenty of coffee and biscuits! If you would like to come along then we'll be pleased to meet you! We meet in the church on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10-11am. You’ll be made very welcome.
