Join our Choir

The ChoirCan you sing? Did you used to sing in a choir? Would you like to sing in a choir? Why not think about joining the choir at St John’s? Music is at the heart of our worship and our choir is the heart of our music.

The core of the choir is our four choral scholars. They are all singing students at the Royal College of Music or the Royal Academy of Music. But they are aided and abetted by volunteers who enjoy coming along on Sunday Mornings to sing.

A SopranoThe great part of being a volunteer singer in our choir is that you don’t have to make a weekly commitment. We all have busy lives, and for many of us it’s just not possible to be in church every Sunday. What’s important is that you can sing when you’re in church. The scholars provide the bedrock and this means the rest of us can be there confident we’re not going to be asked to hold up a part on our own!

The boysIt’s important that the music is something that we all share in during the service—going to church at St. John’s isn’t like going to a concert. So we usually sing one of a range of congregational settings that everyone can join in with. We always sing an anthem during the communion—and that can be anything from Byrd to Rutter via Mozart and Schubert.

The choir rehearses from 9am on Sunday morning for the 10am service. Joining the choir is a great way to get to know people at St John’s. We’re always on the look out for new people to join, and there’s plenty of fun to be had if you do.

If you would like to get involved with the choir then come along on a Sunday morning. Get hold of the Director of Music or one of the choir over drinks after the service and ask them to tell you more! The Girls
